What Masheka Said for 2012-01-26
- Okay, so I have 'til Tuesday to finish my entire sketchbook & make this deadline for the tour. http://t.co/OIQDttz3 #
These Classics are Graphic! (And out now!)
African-American Classics: Graphic Classics Vol. #22 is out NOW.
Get it and check out pages 108 & 109 first. Then read the rest of the book, filled with adapted stories and poems by comic luminaries including Lance Tooks, Kyle Baker, Alex Simmons, and Shephard Hendrix. Let the awesomeness permeate your brainmeat for approximately 20 minutes after book reading is complete. Feel free to weep openly with joy, but try to keep your clothes on.
When your joy tears have dried and your pants are rebuckled, read Volume 22 again. WITH FERVOR! However this time pages 108 & 109 should be read last and in a booming theatrical voice with lots of hand gestures. Also it’s recommended that you orate it standing up and marching in a circle (or in the shape of your choosing).
Repeat the process, only this time read every third word in every third panel. Who knows? You might find a secret message hidden inside!
BOOKLYN!!
I’ll be at the Brooklyn Book Festival in about…um, half an hour from the time I finish this post. It’s in and around Borough Hall Plaza on Sunday 9/18 from 10am-6pm.
See some of your favorite authors and cartoonists, like ME and Keith Knight. FOR FREEEEEE!!!
Go! Go right now!!
SPX 2011 (this weekend!!) and African-American Classics (12/11)
First, have a sneak peek at the first panel of my adaptation of ‘De Cunjah Man’ in African-American Classics: Graphic Classics Vol. 22 on sale December 2011.
Aaaaaaaaand this weekend, September 10 & 11 in Bethesda, MD, I’ll be at the 2011 Small Press Expo peddling books with Jen Sorenson and hanging out with Keith Knight and other cartoonist pals.

Unfortunately my better half, Mikhaela Reid, can’t make it this year, so this will be my first convention without a buffer between my many neuroses and the public at large. Me nervous! Hope ya like sweaty handshakes and mumblecore!
Stuff Happening: ECBACC 2011 this Saturday

Forget the rapture!! On Saturday May 21, I’ll be in Philadelphia, PA at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for ECBACC 2011 (East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention) selling stuffed Doodles, the mini-comic ‘So You’ve Been Laid Off?!‘, copies of ‘Deep Doodle‘, Cartoon Rolodex originals (and premiering new unpublished cards).

Or maybe you’d like to buy a 2011 sampler of all my new and upcoming junk, including a sneak peek at ‘Wood’s Anatomy‘, my skewed take on the human body and all of its icky parts.
So come see me this weekend and give me your money* and attention!!
*Especially all of you Rapture-heads. I mean, whattaya gonna do with all your cash? Spend it in the Heaven gift shop? Might as well fork it over to me (I’m not going anywhere) and buy yourself a funnybook to read while you’re ‘ascending’.
Cartoon Rolodex: Xerxes, Brainzilla & Z.F.K.A.C.M
Sketching voodoo and changing doodoo (diapers) are my pastimes nowadays, but I can still find time to post these little doodle bastards on tiny cards from an antiquated office product.
And three this time! When it rains, it pours.

It’s a shame he’s about to be laid off, but times are tough on Uranus.

Not to be confused with Brainiac, Bridezilla, Godzilla, Godzookie or Mecha Godzookie.
Man, that’s one sexy ‘zilla…

Once you go zombie, you get your ass filed ‘z’.
Covered
My Sensations/Fingers of Death illustration is featured in today’s Covered (an amazing site full of classic comic book covers interpreted by different artists).
And while you’re there, check out my latest favorites: these by Matthew Allison.
Black Comix: The perfect gift for your comics-loving sweetheart.*
Get Black Comix: African American Independent Comics, Art and Culture from here ** or schlep your lazy ass to the nearest bookery (if they’re cool, they’ll have it). It’s 175 pages of hardcover goodness from, and about, some of the best artists out there.
And the best part is not only am I profiled in the book, but I have a little illo on the bottom left corner of the cover.
See the Black Comix blog for more info.
*Not recommended for lonely racists.
**although you won’t get it shipped by Valentine’s Day, it should arrive by February 19th for Valenteen’s Day, a holiday I just invented.
